Packard Bell Liberty Tab

One of the latest Android Honeycomb tablets launched is the Packard Bell Liberty Tab which looks a little different from the rest of the 10-inch tablets. It has a curb weight of 760g and is 16mm thick so if you want a slimmer tablet, your best bet would have to be the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. This model comes with an HDMI port, an SD card slot and a docking port, along with the regular volume & headphone provisions.

Along its top and the bottom, this model has silver-colored accents while the rear plate has a browny-red pattern. The 10-inch screen of this tablet features an IPS panel and has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Even though the screen doubles as a mirror, the viewing angles are great. You will be happy to hear that even though the tablet is shipped with the 3.0 version of the Android OS, an update to 3.2 is available which solves some of the performance issues and offer a much better memory management.

The tablet is powered by a 1.0 GHz processor that is on par with other premium tablets, but the graphics processor is not as powerful as the one you will find in more expensive models. It is worth mentioning that the Packard Bell Liberty Tab has been fitted with a pair of Dolby speakers located low don on the back of the tablet which manage to provide a decent amount of volume.

There is an issue while the YouTube videos have to buffer the content as the screen will go blank and won’t light up again even after the video playback starts again, which means that you’ll have to go to the unlock screen very often.

The GPS of this tablet works great and it offers directions for vehicular and walking navigation. You will get quick detail redrawing while you zoom in and out by using a two-finger pinch. As for the five megapixel camera, this isn’t very good as the photos are rather ropey, but you do get an 8x digital zoom.

You’ll also find a 2 mpx front-facing camera that lacks image stabilization and auto focus. You do get some effects like sepia or fireworks, but keep in mind that the camera will default to portrait mode as well.

As far as the battery is concerned, with the Wi-Fi on, the Packard Bell Liberty Tab won’t last you long so it’s highly recommended that you turn it off unless you really need it. The manufacturer says that this battery can survive for 10 hours, but real tests have shown that it will last for less than four hours of gaming, music, taking photos and browsing the Internet.
