Tablet Computer Review – Motion Computing CL900
Motion Computing has been in the tablet business before this form factor became popular. One of their latest products is the CL900 which is aimed towards the business crowd. At the Microsoft Store, the tablet costs $1,125 and it manages to combine a set of features with strong performances. It has a 10-inch display and it is clad in black aluminum with a rubber trim. This aluminum frame does a great job at offering protection, making it a rugged tablet that can resist to vibration, shock, dust or any other adverse conditions.

We should also mention that a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass is bonded on the tablet’s screen in order to keep away cracks and scratches. Behind this screen is a 10.1-inch touchscreen display that has a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels which is suitable for watching 720p content. This screen has been developed for finger and stylus input, and it manages to be very responsive at all times. The stylus is recommended for more precise touch control navigation through the Windows 7 user interface and it is perfect for handwriting input.
Sitting on the right side of the tablet is a small button that will open up a compartment for the stylus. On the left spine sits the power button which unfortunately doesn’t open that easily. On the same side you’ll notice another button for locking the tablet without having to actually power it off.
For $188 more you can get the docking station for this Motion Computing CL900 tablet which comes with three USB 2.0 ports and an Ethernet port. This dock is made from a solid piece of metal and the tablet sets horizontally in the dock cradle. Some of the tablet’s features include a USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader and a mini HDMI port. Also on board are Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11n Wi-Fi.

Just like many other tablets out there, this one has front and back facing cameras. The one on the front is a 1.3 mpx unit which is suitable for video chat, while the one on the back is a 3 megapixel unit for taking photos of the surroundings.
The Motion Computing CL900 has a single core Intel Atom Z670 processor under its hood, running at 1.50 GHz. This CPU has been tailor-mode in order to run Windows 7 (32 bit) and it’s also designed for small spaces. The graphics power is handled by the Intel GMA 600 which is suitable for web browsing on sites with Flash as well as the rest of the programs, except of course for graphics intensive gaming.
The battery should be able to last for about seven and a half hours in MobileMark 2007.
