Viewsonic Tablet Review

A business-oriented tablet launched by Viewsonic is the ViewPad 10pro which is aimed at vertical markets. This is the successor of the ViewPad 10 and it borrows the form factor of the model that it replaced. It has a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display that has a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels. One of the best features of this tablet would have to be the full-sized HDMI port which will allow you to output 1080p fullHD video to an external display.

The tablet has a curb weight of 1.79 pounds which makes it a little bit lighter than the Acer Iconia Tab  W500-BZ467 (2.07 pounds) and the Fujitsu Q550 (1.87 pounds), two of its main rivals. We are glad to report that the tablet is made from aluminum with a glass screen, while the aluminum back adopts a black matte finish which improves grip. Since it measures 6.7 x 10.7 x 0.58 inches (HWD), this thin body does not leave a lot of room for heat to escape, thus allowing temperatures to reach 97 degrees Fahrenheit, which will make your hands sweat.

Under the hood of the Viewsonic ViewPad 10pro is a dual-core Intel Atom Z670 processor running at 1.50 GHz. It offers 16GB SSD for storage which even though it’s blazing fast, many users will not like the limited amount of space available, especially since the tablet is running on Windows 7 which as you know needs a lot of space. The good news is that the manufacturer did not install a lot of bloatware. Instead, they installed Swype, BlueStacks, Microsoft Office 2010 Starter, a touch-friendly PDF viewer from Corel and a web browser and touch UI from Thinix.

Other features of the tablet that we should mention include a single USB 2.0 port and also a slot for installing your microSD card. Also on board is a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera which you can use for video conferencing. Inside the tablet there is Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11n Wi-Fi. The docking port is located on the bottom edge but the dock has to be purchased separately.

The predecessor had dual boot functionality while this one is running as we said earlier on Windows 7 (32 bit version) which also offers Android. You won’t have to boot into one or the other thanks to BlueStacks which allows a virtualized Android 2.3 environment to run in Windows, granting access to the interface and applications of Google’s operating system. The bad news is that you won’t have access to the Android Market since you’ll be limited to third-party apps.

In a video playback test, the battery of the Viewsonic ViewPad 10pro should be able to last for four and a half hours.
